This pillar is where we track that. Character is not a poster on the wall in Butler County. It is practiced every day, in every classroom, by every student — through the Portrait of a Learner competencies our community helped build.

Student-Led Conferences and Defenses of Learning

At key points in their education, Butler County students present their own learning to their families and community. They do not just turn in an assignment. They stand up, explain their thinking, and make the case for their own growth. This is where character shows up in real time.
 

Portrait of a Learner Rubrics

Teachers across the district use a shared set of rubrics built around the five Portrait of a Learner competencies. This means a student's growth in Character, Problem Solving, Communication, Collaboration, and Global Citizenship is being assessed consistently, from kindergarten through graduation.
 

Attendance and Engagement Monitoring

Butler County Schools tracks attendance and extracurricular participation across every school, every year. Students who are showing up in the building and beyond the classroom are students who are building the habits of responsibility that last a lifetime.
