Building for Our Future Using Portrait of a Learner

Butler County Schools is dedicated to it’s community.  We have undertaken a multi-year partnership with local businesses and community leaders in an effort to not only raise up our community but also to prepare our students for a successful life no matter where they decide to live as adults.

Our Portrait of  A Learner Initiative is a K-12 vertically aligned program designed to assist all students in becoming better citizens based on the 5 pillars our community and the nation have determined to be most important for success and happiness in adulthood.  Character, Problem Solving, Communication, Collaboration, and Global Citizenship each contain durable skills which when practiced and mastered help create a well-rounded individual who thinks for themsevles and solves problems.  It is our hope that by fostering these skills in practice, our community and our students will benefit for years to come.

Hear From Our Teachers!

Megan Donaldson, Elementary School Teacher

"Butler County Schools is a great school system to be a part of. We not only focus on academics, but building relationships with each other and our community is a priority for our district. We create a safe environment where students are loved, encouraged to grow, and taught that their voice matters. I have been very fortunate to teach and give back to the school I once attended as a child. We are more than a school or a district–we are family. When you are part of a family, you pour your heart into everything you do. Building relationships and putting students first is what makes our district special. I am proud to be a teacher at Butler County Schools."

What makes Butler County Schools special is how our teachers, families, and community members come together to create a safe, nurturing environment where students feel valued, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential. Butler County Schools isn't just where I work; it's a family I'm proud to be part of, and I genuinely believe it's the best place for students to learn, grow, and thrive."

Jennifer Scott, Exceptional Education Teacher

"Butler County Schools provides opportunities to make connections between colleagues, staff, students, and parents to build a family-like community. My job as a special educator is fulfilling due to supportive relationships. My principals are second to none, and my team is truly invaluable; our collaboration and team selflessness are how we operate and contribute to overall success. This team includes not only teachers, but paraeducators and our Director of Special Education. As a low-incidence teacher, my colleagues and I thrive on celebrating each students’ achievements as it is important to praise progress, even if it appears to be a “small” victory. Any win is worth celebrating. My personal motto is “It’s not what you can’t do, it"
