Butler County Chamber Choir Brings Music, Comfort, and Character to Families at RMHC

In Butler County Schools, learning extends far beyond classroom walls. It lives in moments of empathy, service, and connection as students use their talents to lift up those around them. One such moment came to life this December when students from the Butler County High School Chamber Choir shared their voices and hearts with families at the Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital, offering music, comfort, and a reminder that they are not alone.
The BCHS Chamber Choir spent a morning caroling for families staying at the hospital during an especially emotional time of year. As the choir sang familiar holiday melodies, families gathered to listen, smile, and share in a brief pause of joy and peace. For many, it was a welcome moment of light during an otherwise difficult season.
“This was an amazing experience where we sang with families and spent our time sharing a beautiful moment with those that wanted a little Christmas cheer,” BCHS Principal Stoye Young shared. “I am truly blessed to share in these opportunities with my students and am so proud of their hard work and dedication to spreading the joy of music to these families.”
This experience exemplifies the Character pillar of Butler County Schools’ Portrait of a Learner through students demonstrating empathy, compassion, and service to others. Through their actions, these students showed that character is not just something taught, but something lived. Their willingness to give their time, talents, and energy to support others reflects the kind of lifelong learners Butler County Schools strives to develop.
The visit was made even more meaningful through the generosity and collaboration of community members and staff who helped create a memorable experience for families. A special thank you was extended to Casie Hopkins for donating teddy bears, Jen Johnson and Cati Joiner for providing blankets, and Bailee Fowler, Kaylee Dreise, and Susan Fowler for helping organize and set up the event. Together, these contributions transformed a simple performance into a heartfelt act of care and connection.
For students, the experience reinforced the power of music as a tool for communication and healing. In the hospital setting, surrounded by families facing uncertainty, the choir experienced the power of their voices to comfort, encourage, and unite people across diverse circumstances. These lessons align closely with Butler County Schools’ commitment to student-centered success and real-world learning experiences that build both academic and social-emotional growth.
Moments like this also highlight the strong partnership between Butler County Schools and the broader community. When schools, families, and community members come together, students see firsthand what it means to serve others and contribute positively to the world around them. These experiences help shape students into thoughtful citizens who understand the importance of kindness, generosity, and responsibility.
At Butler County High School, educators strive to provide opportunities that allow students to grow not only academically, but also as individuals with strong values and a sense of purpose. The Chamber Choir’s visit to the Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital is a powerful example of how intentional experiences can leave a lasting impact on both students and those they serve.
As Butler County Schools continues to celebrate Portrait of a Learner stories across the district, this moment stands as a reminder that character is built through action. Whether through music, service, or simple human connection, Butler County students are learning how to make a difference, one act of kindness at a time.
These are the moments that define the district’s mission: fostering lifelong learning, strengthening community connections, and ensuring every student is prepared to succeed not only in school, but in life. United by shared values and a commitment to serving others, Butler County Schools remains focused on moving forward together.
One team with one vision that makes us Butler Strong.
