Bear Pride News Show #9

K-Prep Testing

BCMS will be K-Prep testing May 15th, 16th, 19th, 21st, and 22nd.  We ask that doctors, dentist, and other appointments be scheduled around these dates if at all possible. We appreciate your help and attention to this.

End of Year Recognition

BCMS will be having 6th and 7th grade end of year awards on Thursday May 29th.  The 6th grade will be at 8:00 a.m. and the 7th grade will be at 9:00 a.m.  The 8th grade Recognition will be Friday, May 30th at 1:00 p.m.  Morgantown Elementary will have Kindergarten Graduation at 8:15 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 10:30 a.m. on Friday May 30th.  MES will also have 5th grade graduation at 11:30 a.m. on the 30th. North Butler Elementary will have Kindergarten Graduation at 9:00 a.m. and 5th grade graduation at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, May 30th.

BCMS Jr. Beta

The Junior Beta Club is selling McDonald’s Peel to Save cards. There are 30 coupons, and all of them are buy one get one free coupons.
They include:
Buy an Extra Value Meal get a Happy Meal free
Buy 1 Get one Free Any Reg. Priced Sandwich or 6 pc. Chicken McNuggets
Buy 1 Get one Free Any Regular Priced Breakfast Sandwich

They expire 12/31/14 and can be used in Morgantown, Beaver Dam, Central City, Greenville, Leitchfield, Russellville, and several more places. They are $10, and for every one we sell the Beta Club gets $5. We are using this money for our end-of-the-year after school party and scavenger hunt. If you would like to buy one, please let me know.

Also, we are collecting canned food for the Morgantown Mission. If you would like to donate that would be great.

BCMS Won the Regional Bridge Building Championship

On Saturday, March 1st, the 19th annual was held at the WKU Center of Research and Development in Bowling Green. This year’s competition featured 4 schools and 74 qualifying contestants. Butler County Middle School had 39 students and one 5th grade student who entered bridges in the middle school division.

Butler County Middle School students placing in the top 10 and receiving trophies were: Maggie Dotson (1st place with an efficiency of 1276); Kobe Annis- 5th grade (2nd place with an efficiency of 927); Leevi King (3rd place with and efficiency of 752); Nathan Boord (4th place with an efficiency of686); Zander Sorrels (5th place with an efficiency of 685); Chelsey Renfrow (9th place with an efficiency of 543); and Autumn Jenkins (10th place with an efficiency of 540). Also, Trevor Cardwell received an Architectural Design trophy for the artistic design of a bridge. He placed first in this category.

B.C.M.S. won the Regional Team Championship. This award is based on the most points determined by the efficiencies of the top 5 bridges from each participating school. B.C.M.S. has won the regional competition 13 of the last 15 years and finished Regional Runner-up the other two.

Congratulations to all the bridge building students who put in the additional time and effort necessary to participate in this competition. Those hard working students will continue to be strong contenders in this contest for years to come.
